And so spring break beings... in Wellington! 8/28/2011

My six hour bus ride from Dunedin to Christchurch was laden with cows grazing on fields. For the first time, I think I saw more cows that sheep, and according to Ellie, this is because cows are farmed on flat grounds while sheep can be farmed on hills. I suppose that is why there are so many sheep in Dunedin. However, this is not to say that there were no hills during the entire six hours. There were definitely sections where on the left were rolling green hills while on the other was the ocean. The highway was only one lane for each direction so often times I felt like I was in one of those movies that ends with someone driving into a beautiful sunset. I took InterCity Buses and soon realized that the bus was more like the MTA buses back in New York City rather than something like Bolt or Megabus. This is because the Intercity Bus stopped along the way to pick people up and drop people off. We also had a lunch stop in Timaru, where Julia, Ellie, and I conveniently sat on a “Danger Zone” sign near the railway station. Luckily this wasn’t some kind of very active train station or anything and there were people tramping all over the tracks.

We arrived in Christchurch airport around two hours early, and to my surprise this was incredibly early. We checked in within two minutes of getting to the airport and then proceeded to sit near the security checkpoint for the next hour and a half, munching on some cookies and raisin bread. Security went incredibly smoothly too, and you don’t even need to take off your shoes. We took off soon after boarding the plane and I must say, the flight from Christchurch to Wellington was the shortest flight I have ever been on. Barely 20 minutes after taking off and announcement came on for us to get ready for landing. We landed in Wellington around 5pm and took a taxi to Tama’s house.
Tama is Ellie’s friend from high school and he is super nice. He had his flat mates made dinner for us, which was about four or five types of delicious pizza. We then sat around their kitchen table chatting to candlelight before going to bed.
